First of all, I would really like to know why they are called PANSY, who named them!? ; )
As far as how to grow them? They love Sun, so toss the seeds, cover it lightly. Now sit back and relax.. no FUSS at all. After couple of months, color of their flowers will make your garden prettier than it was. Seriously, I have nothing more to add. Because they were as easy as it sounds.
Ok! One more thing, they love water, as much as they love sun.. so make sure you don’t let the soil dry.
Pretty pretty pretty! Aren’t they?
Going back to the name, According to Urban Dictionary, Pansy means, “A sissy, fag, fairy, or one that is generally unmanly” SERIOUSLY! Poor Flowers.
Then I did some more research, Pansee is a spanish word meaning “thought”, (Now things are getting clear;)) The pansy was chosen as a symbol of FREE THOUGHT and has been used in the literature of the American Secular Union.
Pansy’s current appearance was developed from the heartsease by two centuries of intentional crossbreeding of wild plant hybrids. The specific colors of the flower – purple, yellow, and white – are meant to symbolize memories, loving thoughts and souvenirs, respectively.
These amazing flowers are so beautiful to look at… actually it seems like they are the one looking at you. 🙂
Awesome for containers, borders, hanging baskets and ground covers.
